Shawn McCraney

Shawn McCraney
Shawn McCraney
Shawn McCraney is a very popular TV/internet critic of Mormonism, but last month he came out swinging against the Triune God of the Bible. Shawn doesn’t think that’s the God of the Bible. Instead, Shawn thinks that the term “Trinity,” and its associated doctrine are simply the inventions of men influenced by paganism. His criticism has sounded like it was right out of the playbook of Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, or any other cult. What has been shocking is that everyone has assumed he was a genuine Christian! Now, people are at least beginning to wonder if he had a false conversion to Christ.

I wrote two blogs last month on this situation (see here and here), and also was thrust into an impromptu debate with Shawn on his live show (see here). I have also been responding to this situation quite a bit over Facebook (see here).

Courageous Christians United is not simply a ministry to Mormons. That’s the majority of it since we live in Utah where Mormons are around 60% of the state, but we also exist to defend Christianity against all different intellectual attacks. This attack from Shawn is important to deal with, since he has quite an influence on a number of recent converts out of Mormonism. We don’t want these new converts to be led astray into his confusion. We are calling on Shawn to step down from public ministry for a time deemed appropriate by a group of elders that fit biblical qualifications.

Ex-Mormon Meetup

We had another great Meetup with Brian and Eileen Smith sharing their story. You may view the pictures here and the video here.

Florida Temple Opening

We are definitely planning on going to the LDS temple opening in Florida next month. We have booked the flights, reserved the hotel, as well as the car rental. This was a simple act of faith, trusting that God would provide through you. We have quite a bit of debt now, not simply from booking this trip, so we ask you to consider what part you can play in helping us.

We Need Your Partnership!

We not only need your prayers, but we need your financial assistance as well. Keep in mind that your investment is not simply for us, but for the lives of others we reach with the gospel. The standard way to financially invest is by writing a check to Courageous Christians United (CCU). For more information on various ways to invest in this ministry, including online giving, please see our “Invest” page on any of our sites. Please keep in mind 1) this is our sole source for income, and 2) we have no financial guarantees each month. Ministry partners come and go as jobs do. If you’re not a partner, please consider joining our team and let us know soon. We’d love to be your missionaries here in Utah. Many thanks to those of you who hold us up in prayer and in your financial giving!

We expect God to provide for our needs through you. Why? Because the Bible is clear: “the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:14).

I thought you did great tonight. I found it funny that Shawn called you a "Mormon basher." Apparently, he has never asked what the Mormons think of his antics on the show. Shawn was all over the place. Shawn, sadly, can not be called a brother. However, I am proud to call you brother. Keep up the good fight.

Rob I am proud to have you as my brother. You did great. You represented The Lord well and defended the truth with clarity.

[Received this “fan mail” right after the surprise debate with Shawn McCraney:] Your an imbecile. Wanted to let you know since I didn't get the chance tonight. Your no better than all the other megaphone morons at temple square. Your immature antics tonight would have been comical had they not been so despicable. You are a blight on the church.

Arthur Adam Haglund says... (Reply)
"Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Shawn is making a Bastard of himself. Plain and simple." (3/5/14)
