Pastor Bryan Hurlbutt prays over Zoe
Zoe’s Baby Dedication
At the beginning of last month, we had Zoe dedicated to the Lord at our local church… Lifeline Community. You may watch the 12 minute event here. I was able to read something special I wrote to Zoe. Most of Tara’s unsaved family was there for it and stayed through the service. By the way, one of her sisters and her two kids have regularly been coming to our church, and her husband is coming occasionally!
Book of Mormon lecture
Last month, my Salt Lake City buddy, Russ Bales, was able to get the only decent video of me lecturing on the Book of Mormon last year from my mid-west buddy, Matt Konen. Russ discovered a digital online program they used to transfer it. Russ edited the video, and I’m now pleased to present it to you here.
Temple Square Outreach
I was privileged to have ice cream thrown at me by a hot-headed Pacific Islander. He was in a car shouting at me to leave prior to tossing it at me. I thought it missed me until I got home later and noticed it was on my shirt, my hair, and my temple!
Later, I asked one LDS lady, "Have you read the Bible?" She replied, "Yes." So I asked, "Did you read where Jesus said that there's only 1 true God in Jn. 17:3 and did you read in Isa. 43:10 where God said ‘before me there was no God formed nor shall there be after me?’" She said, "Well that's just your interpretation!" I said, "I didn't interpret anything. I just quoted to you what the Bible said." She had enough and walked away.
On another occasion, an LDS guy refused my DVD by saying, "No, we have testimonies." So I told him, "That shouldn't keep you from knowing God." The guy didn’t respond, but kept walking. I could tell he was thinking about that!
High School Outreach
There were lots of hostile students as well as a couple of upset crossing guards at Copper Hills High School, but I did manage to get a number of Jesus Christ/Joseph Smith DVDs out. One of the crossing guards was high-fiving the students when they told me they were LDS and weren’t interested. When I went on to explain what the video was, she told me that I shouldn’t say anything else if they weren’t interested. She also said that I insulted one of the black students. I said, “I never insulted her. I simply warned her that her own scripture of the Book of Mormon is racist, white-supremacist literature.”
Near the end of my time, a bunch of boys came to curse at me and tell me to go somewhere else. They didn’t think I should be talking to high schoolers. I told them that this was their lucky day, since God was using me to share the good news of Jesus with them before it was too late!
We had Liz Trujillo come and share her fascinating story of coming out of Mormonism and coming to Christ. You may see the pictures here and the video here.
Tara and I have started leading Divorce Care again at our church. This is a national evangelical program of 13 weeks (for more info, see www.DivorceCare.com). Currently we have 4 others attending. Pray for them as well as us.
We Need Your Partnership!
We not only need your prayers, but we need your financial assistance as well. Keep in mind that your investment is not simply for us, but for the lives of others we reach with the gospel. The standard way to financially invest is by writing a check to Courageous Christians United (CCU). For more information on various ways to invest in this ministry, please see our “Invest” page on any of our sites. Please keep in mind 1) this is our sole source for income, and 2) we have no financial guarantees each month. Ministry partners come and go as jobs do. If you’re not a partner, please consider joining our team and let us know soon. We’d love to be your missionaries here in Utah. Many thanks to those of you who hold us up in prayer and in your financial giving!
We expect God to provide for our needs through you. Why? Because the Bible is clear: “the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:14).
“Be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:9)!

Rob what a good job! We were so blessed to hear what you had to say! It is a good reminder to know that life is all about Jesus!
Great talk. You know, most Mormons are much more devoted to their culture than the truth. May God bless those who love truth and reject deception.
All I can say is WOW! Saw your guy across the street from the SL temple and I walked right past him along with everyone else. I couldn't wait to come home and look it up on the web. As usual out of context and misunderstood quotes on both sides of your page. But I couldn't help think what do you think he lied about?
I came up with a long list of possiblities, but the bottom line is that the Holy Ghost has witnessed to me of the calling of Joseph Smith. That is indisputable. So no reason to list a list of possiblities. I know he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, I know he translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. I know he is the prophet of the Restoration (which by the way is mentioned in the Bible) He gave his life for the gospel, much like many of the reformers.
Much of what is added to the very brief testimony above are reassurances of who he was and by no means says this is what makes him a prophet. They are additional witnesses to the Holy Ghost, the icing on the cake But the first clue is that he was hounded by "peaceful God fearing people" his entire life. They couldn't leave it alone. I believe because the devil wanted to put an end to him. You do not see that happening to other religions. Usually they are left alone, to believe what they want to believe and they usually go away. (in our day anyway. During the reformation not so I reallize that)
So much is going through my mind that I do not know where to go next. Perhaps to say I am glad that you have a belief. Teach it and stop trying to destroy the happiness of those that believe differently. By the way I notice that you only choose to contend against Mormons.
If you have a truth of sincerity and honesty in you, you must realize that there can only be one church of Christ's. The teachings of all the others are so different. Yes there is alot of truth in them and a lot of good. But they are different. Christ's teachings are not different that would be confusing. Ephesians 4:3-6 talks about unity, one body, one spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism. We want to add to what is already good and right about them, if the individuals want. We do not go out and try to convince anyone that what they believe is wrong, we teach the truth as the Savior did in His ministry and let the Holy Ghost testify to them of the truth. We choose not to do it as the pharisees and saducees did it when they opposed Christ
The devil knows if he outright taught inopposition to Christ that people would out right reject it, but if he taught some truth with incorrect doctrine, or with out authority or priesthood FROM GOD, change the ordinances and if he varied them from religion to religion he would confuse many and keep them from the truth.
If you sincerely believe what you believe then preach what you believe and try to convince people on your own merits. As it is, it appears that you are not doing the work of Christ.
To much to go into and I feel I have said enough. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I testify that Jesus Christ lives. That he died for all of his children that we may be resurected and judged of Him. I know that to be saved is a continual effort on my part. That not only must I believe in Him but I must continually strive to keep His commandments and serve Him and Worship him and keep all covenants that I have made to Him to go back to His presence. I find Joy in this. I find peace in this.
From one Christian to another.
[I replied:] Of course saying, “As usual out of context and misunderstood quotes on both sides of your page” is easy, but it’s not helpful in having a serious dialogue. If you want that, then you need to be specific and we can deal with them on a case by case basis. It should be obvious to you that on the basis of how I set up my Home page chart of differences between Mormonism and Christianity why I claim Smith lied. If that’s not sufficient, then try reading my “False Prophecies” page and you may also want to try clicking the link on the original JosephLied.com by Mike Norton.
Now as far as what you take to be “indisputable,” if you really can’t see how fallible you are and how you can even make a mistake here, then who am I to dispute the infallible? I will tell you that I fallibly received an answer from the Holy Ghost as well, and He’s telling me that you’re deceived and headed to hell for following a false prophet, who taught a false God/Jesus/gospel.
If you went to JosephLied.com, then of course that’s all you’ll see--a response to Mormons. However, if you would have read closely, you would have seen under “Who Are We?” up at the top of my site that I run Courageous Christians United. If you go there, you’d see all the other responses to all those who reject Christianity.
Now if you don’t go out and teach others that they are wrong, then what are you doing here? It seems you’re trying to tell me that I’m wrong. Well, if you can do it, then so can. Joseph Smith first attacked Christianity saying that all other churches were wrong, all their creeds an abomination, and all their professors corrupt. He also taught there’s only one true church that he restored, and all others are of the church of the devil (D&C 1:30 and 1 Ne. 14:10). So obviously, as a traditional Christian, I have every right to respond to that.
You can claim all the peace you want, but I still hold you don’t have peace with God and are headed to hell. I have the peace of God simply through Christ as Rom. 5:1 says. That’s why I don’t have a worry whether I’m going to be with God when I die. You, and every other Mormon I’ve talked with, do have that worry, because it’s based on, not only Christ, but your worthiness. My worthiness is already taken care of, because the Worthy one lives in me and is daily making me more like Himself. He’s trying to warn you before it’s too late. But if you’re more in love with your indisputable feeling, which you interpret as being the Holy Ghost, then you will follow that all the way to hell.
