Rob at the Gilbert temple
Rob at the Gilbert temple
Gilbert, AZ Mission Trip

In the month of December, MormonInfo.org received only 189 visits from the state of Arizona. Contrast that with Utah. It’s the state with the most visits every month. In December it had 1,210 visits. However last month, Utah came in second with only 929 visits and Arizona came in first with 1,525 visits! What made a difference? About six guys, including myself, who advertised my web site for a little less than a couple weeks outside the Gilbert, AZ LDS temple. My buddies went down the first week of its opening and I went down the second week. (Before a temple is dedicated and closed off to only the worthy, the LDS Church has some weeks that open it up to the public. LDS invite their non-LDS friends to come through it, so the event is usually well-attended with potential converts.)

There is no doubt that advertising works! We just had the Super (toilet) Bowl in which advertisers paid millions of dollars for brief commercials. The work we did in front of the temple is still drawing people to MormonInfo.org. The last day I advertised was the 3rd of this month, but everyday Arizona is still well above all the other states in visits to the site.

The most prominent way my site was advertised was through my signs. I have one sign for daylight and one for night time. In addition to that, I also advertised my site on hundreds of newspapers and some DVDs (the LDS temple endowment filmed with a hidden camera). When I wanted to concentrate on getting those out, I put the sign away. It was also during that time where I got into more conversations. However, there weren’t very many conversations at all.

Nonetheless, I did get to lead a couple non-LDS guys—James and Anthony—in a prayer to receive Christ! James said that his dad used to be LDS, but for whatever reason James never joined. He said he was Christian, but when I asked him what he’d tell God to get into heaven, he didn’t know how to respond. After he and Anthony asked Christ to come into their lives and turned from all their sins, they realized Christ was with them and would always be with them. I encouraged them to start feeding off the words of God found in the Bible and get plugged into a good Christian church.

In addition to James and Anthony, I had a couple of separate conversations with two LDS guys—Dan and Steve—for quite a while. Dan continued to talk for a little while with my local buddies—James and Brian. With Steve, one thing that stood out to me that I’m starting to hear more from some other LDS, is that he believed the papyri from which Joseph Smith supposedly translated the Book of Abraham was burned in the Chicago fire in 1871. I told him that this was just not true and he can easily look it up that they were given over to the LDS Church by the New York Metropolitan Museum in 1967. I also told him that even if that weren’t the case, we still have Smith’s explanation of the facsimiles to check, and he failed miserably here!

LDS were obviously not too happy about us being out there. An LDS guy walked past me with his family and told me that what I was doing was “so offensive.” All I did was stand on a street corner with my sign and tell him and his family that I loved them and simply wanted to warn them. On another night, one guy drove by and threw an open water bottle at me. Fortunately he completely missed.  However, the very next night someone threw a lemon at me, and that did hit my side. I guess I should have gotten the hint, packed up and went home, since of course a Christian would never want to offend anyone!

Possible Round Two

Would you like to see more of this? Tara, the kids, and I are considering going to another temple opening in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from April 14th - the 22nd. We’d have to raise around $2,500. This would be quite a special trip, since we'd be there for my birthday. Please consider and pray about giving for this end.

MormonInfo.org Facelift

Last month my brother Steve helped moved my site over to his company’s site—EasySite.com. The site is looking better than ever, and is now more interactive. Please give it a look and let me know what you think!

JosephLied.com Bumper Stickers

JosephLied.com is the other URL that brings one to MormonInfo.org. If you were worried about people thinking you were a Mormon by having a MormonInfo.org bumper sticker on your car, now you can help us by putting a JosephLied.com sticker on your car. Just request one with any donation to our ministry.

JWinfo.org Facebook Discussion

I just started the JWinfo.org discussion page on Facebook the end of last month, so please join us!

We Need Your Partnership!

We not only need your prayers, but we need your financial assistance as well. Keep in mind that your investment is not simply for us, but for the lives of others we reach with the gospel. The standard way to financially invest is by writing a check to Courageous Christians United (CCU). For more information on various ways to invest in this ministry, please see our “Invest” page on any of our sites. Please keep in mind 1) this is our sole source for income, and 2) we have no financial guarantees each month. Ministry partners come and go as jobs do. If you’re not a partner, please consider joining our team and let us know soon. We’d love to be your missionaries here in Utah. Many thanks to those of you who hold us up in prayer and in your financial giving!

We expect God to provide for our needs through you. Why? Because the Bible is clear: “the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:14).

Hi Rob,
I took some time to watch this [our talk at Tomball Bible Church]. I thought that it was very good! (not that my opinion means much). I knew that your wife was formerly LDS, I didn't know that her father died when she was 15? That must have been tough. I was 13 when my father died.

You and yours are a great teaching team. I have a 12 year old daughter, I may have her watch this so that she could hear your wife's testimony. My kids have learned Mormon thought from me, but when I speak "Its Dad talking again" lol. Plus, I don't think that she's ever hear a lady speaking about Mormonism.

Thanks for sharing,

With all good wishes,
______________

Great speech!! I learned a lot more about what Mormons believe from this [the Tomball Bible Church talk].

I forgot to mention that I was impressed with Tara’s testimony.  My wife Lesley and I are leaders in a local Celebrate Recovery.  It was interesting to hear her story.

I just finished watching 2 of your youtube videos: you and your lovely wife Tara sharing your wisdom, knowledge of mormonism and then Dianna Mattew's amazing testimony. Thank you so much for all that amazing info shared.

Hello! I am sure you get nerdy fan mail all the time, but I just have to say it's awesome what your doing. My mentors… gave me a couple of your support letters to read and I was just amazed. I have been to Utah a couple times on Missions trips through Utah Partnerships for Christ in Ogden Utah. I LOVE MORMONS. When I look at pictures of Utah my heart hurts. If my husband would go for it I'd pack up and move there, but alas he wont. So know I am praying for you and your family. And take heart that Gods word doesn't return void.
God Bless

Rob, I've been moody all day. thinking of you a lot as well. My parents, My cousin, the one I converted to the church, my best friend all think I am mean and over the top.I know you don't suffer that but people in SLC think you are a fruit cake. it hurts and I would think if not on the same level it hurts you too. does it get you down? How do you deal with it when everyone thinks you have flipped out? is it possible we are being obnoxious? perhaps a word of encouragement. thanks

[I replied:] You ever watched my video?

[She replied:] watched the video. I needed to hear that. thanks. I need to find my back bone again.

I think I've just spent the last few days feeling sorry for myself because my mother father brother, close cousin and bestfriend/sister have all called me over the top , and hateful. I'd rather hear that from a stranger. I admire your work. thanks for being and inspiration!

[I replied:] You're very welcome. Praying that God will use you to reach your family and others.

[She replied:] thanks. I'm getting back on the horse.

[I replied:] God's happy about that, but Satan isn't

[Got the following from a preacher friend of mine, who comes out to witness every LDS General Conference:] Hi brother. I watched you witnessing at the conference center in October. You were inspirational and Jesus really speaks through you. Thank you for doing this. I was touched by the preachers when I was still in Mormonism and God guided me to him through them Praise his name and may he bless you!

I met Rob one day when he was holding a sign, when I lived in Utah. Now I'm in Los Angeles. I got one of his little papers and kept it. I liked him. He was smart and spoke only about the Bible. I am an ex-Catholic, almost a Mormon, but information like Rob's kept me from it. I got save at Calvary Chapel. I'm thankful to him and others like him for being nice, loving, kind, non-insulting, and just sharing the love of Jesus, even when he was preaching on the street.

I guess we could be evangelising for the rest of our lives. Do you ever worry that mocking them may only push the wedge in deeper? I worry that if we aren't showing love as we tell them that Jesus is God, they will continue to label that mockery as 'persecution' which they love to use as one of their key brainwashing tools.

[I replied:] It depends on what I want to do.  There's a time and place for everything.  If I want extended dialogue then I don't mock there religion.  If I want something to give them that they'll take home and stew over, then mocking may be appropriate.  If I want to inoculate non-Mormons, then a backhand to Mormonism may be a good teaching tool.  Keep in mind that if Elijah backhanded the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel, then I know that it can be done appropriately at least on occasion.

[She replied:] Ok. I am more than certain you know what you are doing. Just wish I had the guts to do it. Well, I do, but I fear them a little.

[I replied:] That's why we're careful what we allow on our https://www.facebook.com/groups/MormonInfo.org/

We've had to delete posts and get rid of posters on our Discussion Board because of this issue.  Some things are better put elsewhere than an open group of both Mormons and non-Mormons.  As administrators for the board, we live and die with our decisions.

[She replied:] I just worry that as they keep clasping at straws hanging dearly onto their lies, they are using whatever they can find to support their case, and the remaining staunch followers are clinging to the last of the lies based on what they see as the big persecution. I guess those left who are convincing naive newbies to not read anything that does not come from the LDS.org website are narcissists and may never be convinced of the truth for that reason - they 'need' the power their fake 'status' brings to make them feel big. It's all so so silly and so sad.

[I replied:] Just do what you think honors God, and leave it to Him who gets saved.  He loves them more than we ever could, since He died for them after all.

They'll all have to stand before God one day with their lame excuses if they don't repent.

Hi Rob,

[We] stopped and talked with you one evening on a street corner in Salt Lake City, where you were courageously were holding a sign reaching out to people re Mormons and truth, as I recall. From memory it was Thursday August 15th last year. I have just come across you business card that you gave me.

...We are not Mormons; [my wife]’s father rejected it in Canada prior to WW2.

...It was a fascinating trip of discovery of both family history and of just what Mormonism is about.

While we met many beautiful Mormon people on all our historical stops along the way, we were a little disturbed by what we were hearing. We found that we were not getting the full story.

We found that we had to uncover layer after layer of sanitised Mormon history to get to some of the disturbing truth.

As we mentioned to you at the time, after three days at Nauvoo, we came across a Christian book shop, just prior to departing on our last day.

That lucky find, provided many honest answers to our many questions. Along with two DVDs: "A Mormon President", and the one that you too offered us: "Jesus Christ / Joseph Smith".

...Keep up the good work, there are many people like us who have believed that Mormons are just another branch of Christianity.

If we had not discovered the Nauvoo Christian Visitor’s Centre and had not spoken to you, we may still have been deceived.
