Training Ratio Christi Leaders

Ratio Christi is a Christian organization that defends the Christian faith on college campuses. The president, Dr. Corey Miller, is a long-time friend of mine. Early last month, Tara and I were privileged to speak to their team of leaders from around the country that came out for a week-long mission trip. They came out under one of our board members, Brett Kunkle’s, ministry--Maven, and stayed at our church: the Bridge Community, Centerville, UT. Tara shared her story of coming out of Mormonism and coming to Christ, and I shared The Three Biblical Criteria for Testing the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith.

More LDS Missionaries

I happened to run into 3 LDS missionaries the middle of last month at our local Walmart. One is from MN, one is from Santa Barbara, CA, and another is from Guatemala. The one from Guatemala has served 24 months (LDS male missionaries serve for 24 months), and isn't sure about when he's going to get back home due to the Coronavirus. The other two are 20 months along.

These guys were perplexed when I asked if their feelings ever deceived them. For example, past girlfriends that they thought had to be the one. They just assumed that feelings never deceive and that God always speaks through them. That's why they could readily dismiss all the passages I gave them that clearly state that God's never not been God and they can't become exalted as Gods as God is God (i.e., Ps. 90:2, Isa. 43:10, 44:6, 8, and 24). They readily dismissed 2 Thes. 2:11 where, because of their rebellion, God sent them a strong delusion so that they would believe a lie. Their God doesn't do that, so it must be figurative and the Joseph Smith Translation cleared all that up.

I gave them reasons why Smith's translation shouldn't be trusted and proved that Smith lied (i.e., Smith's prophecy of himself in Gen. 50, God "not" putting away David's sin in 2 Sam. 12:13, or Rom. 4:5 where God justifies "not" the ungodly). No other translation says these things and, more importantly, they go against *all* the early Hebrew and Greek translations. Then I told them that Smith failed every test the Bible gives for being a prophet of God and that they are more in love with their feelings and church rather than God and His word. I told them that Satan has deceived them and they were not going to have spirit kids bow down to worship them to the exclusion of the God of this world.

They claimed they worship God the Father and Jesus. When I asked them, "Why did Jesus teach we were only to worship the only true God and *Him* alone serve" (Mat. 4:10) and that "there is only one true God" (Jn. 17:3), they didn't at all see the problem since the members of the Godhead are one in purpose. I asked, "Which God is the only one you serve?" Crickets. So I told them again that the Bible knows of no other God who created everything outside Himself. *He* is the only true God; it's not a *team* of separate Gods that we worship. All other gods are false gods who didn't create the world as the Lord did *Himself* (Ps. 96:4-5 with Isa. 44:24).

The one from MN did most of the talking, and he wanted to quickly dismiss themselves. I told them to please check out my website sometime when they get off their mission... www.JosephLied.com. I asked if I could pray for them. He didn't want me to at first, but the others did, so I prayed for them that God would open their eyes and help the Guatemala missionary to be able to get back home soon. Please say a quick prayer for them too!

Afterwards I asked if I could get a picture. The guy from MN hedged, but then said not to post it on social media, particularly Facebook. I agreed to that, so I didn't post it there, but I'm happy to share it with you here. Altogether, I had about 15 to 20 minutes with them.

Abortion Protest

I met a couple buddies out front of the Wasatch Women’s Health Center last month to advertise for the local Pregnancy Resource Center. It was on a busy street, so we got our message out. One guy even flipped us off as he drove by! We didn’t see anyone go in or out of this place. It’s deceiving that the sign on the door says “Utah Adoption Services,” since they don’t do *any* adoptions there. They do abortions.

Temple Square

Did some advertising, dialoguing, and preaching outside of Temple Square. It was interesting to see all the deconstruction going on as the Mormon Church reworks the whole place, particularly the temple itself to make it more earthquake proof. (Ironic, since we received worldwide news for our 5.7 earthquake last month that did damage to the temple.) I recall talking to a skeptic who was visiting from out of state. I gave her some good reasons to believe the Bible, but she wasn’t really interested. I also referred a grateful Christian to a good local church close to where he was living. I also recall some guy from out of state wanting to argue eternal security with me. My site also received about 5 times the amount of hits for that day due to my sign and encouraging others to go check it out!

New Videos

I posted a couple more videos from Jay Watts: “Why I Am a Christian” and the “Philosophical Argument Against Abortion.”

We Need Your Partnership!

We not only need your prayers, but we need your financial partnership as well. Keep in mind that your investment is not simply for us, but for the lives of others we reach with the gospel. The standard way to financially invest is by writing a tax-deductible check to Courageous Christians United (CCU). For more information on various ways to invest in this ministry, including online giving, please see our “Invest” page on our sites. Please keep in mind we have no financial guarantees each month. Ministry partners come and go. If you’re not a partner and are blessed by these monthly updates, please consider joining our team and let us know soon. We’d love to be your missionaries here in Utah.

For those who sign up to partner with us on a monthly basis, I will send a signed copy of the book I contributed a chapter in--Sharing the Good News with Mormons (Harvest House). Many thanks to those of you who hold us up in prayer and/or in your financial giving!

We expect God to provide for our needs through you. Why? Because the Bible is clear: “the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:14).

Be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6)!

Robert Verdin at the Manti Pageant
Robert Verdin at the Manti Pageant
Hi there,

My name is Rebecca... I was a Mormon. I have been racking my brain to find a man who I actually confronted because I was so mad at his sign that said “Joseph lied.”

I don’t remember his name, but he was a little chubbier, had dark gray hair and a mustache. I demanded why he has this sign. And he preceded to tell me that he lied and truly explained to me why, and urged me to research.

I think this was back in 2008-2009 I think I was just about to graduate high school. I was a true believing Mormon.. and I was so firm in my faith. But the older I got, the more questions surfaced and it led me to research more. For my bachelor’s dissertation I wrote about “Mormonism and social control” and that helped me battle against false truths and what is true.
I have resigned from the church last year and I go to elevation church here in Charlotte NC.

This man, after all these years, still impacted my life then and I still think about him to this day. I don’t remember his name, but I remember his sign, and I remember his face. And he was one of the many who were speaking to Mormons and trying to share the truth. He told me he loved me which is why he wanted me to know the truth.

I just wanted to say thank you. For your organization. Even though it has been years since.... it still impacted me greatly.

Signed by an ex-Mormon,
______________

Amazing story Rob! The ripple effects of Manti over the years! Jesus is faithful! You just never know who has been impacted!
______________

my boy went to Manti in 05 with a high school group from Shadow Mountain and was impressed and inspired by your no nonsense—I don’t care what you think because it’s the truth—preaching. You had a positive impact on him. Now he’s the youth pastor at the Cornerstone Fellowship main campus in Livermore, CA. He’s written a book and has a blog dedicated to encouraging others in youth ministry. You thought you were preaching to Mormons but you were also an example to a young kid of how to proclaim the truth with no fear. Thought you might like to know.
____________

What awesome fruits of your labor. God is with you. God is glorified!
____________

If you're a Mormon basher, (as this post is) I'll have to say goodbye friend.

[I replied to this well-known pro-life Mormon:] I'm a Mormon lover who wants to see Mormons change their mind just like those who think abortion is fine.

[She replied:] yeah....nice try.

[I replied:] Joseph Smith has clearly failed every biblical test for being a prophet of God. Since he's a false prophet and our Lord warned of false prophets, I must do the same. If I'm a Mormon basher, then you must be a basher of those who have abortions.
_____________

I wish you could respect others beliefs.

[I replied to this other pro-life Mormon:] I respect everyone, but why should I respect everyone's beliefs? Do you respect the belief that abortion is morally permissible? I don't. Do you respect the belief that God doesn't exist? I don't. I think these beliefs, and many others, are wrong and they need correction. Do you respect my belief about that? If you are indicating that my belief that Mormonism is wrong is disrespectful, then isn't that itself disrespectful and aren't you being hypocritical? Finally,... LDS scripture indicates that the LDS Church is the only true church and every other church is of the Church of the devil. We aren't supposed to say anything about this?
______________

This is encouraging for all of us who try to expose the darkness of Mormonism day after day. Thank you for posting.
_________

Thank you Rob Sivulka for sharing this! Your courage has helped so many including myself. Your love for the Mormon people has helped me forgive and have more of a desire to share with them the truth of who the true God is! Tears of joy hearing stories like this  love my brother!!
_________

That one soul is worth all the effort. God must be proud of you Rob!!

[I replied:] To God be the glory... great things He's done! People need to realize that I've collected a number of testimonies like this over the years. Advertising and loving confrontation work just as God ordained (cf. 1 Cor. 1:21).
__________

Awesome!!! Never know how the seed will grow and what the end product will be!!!
____________

[I reported:] Funny and tragic how at least 2 Mormon friends unfriended me over this post. Mormons tend to be super overly sensitive about anything that is construed as negative against their faith. Even more tragic is how some Christians end up keeping their mouth shut as a result and they just let LDS feel nice around them and they let LDS go to hell. Hey Christians, that's not love, nor is it Christlike!
____________

Look at the testimony in the email the first reaction was becoming mad, seems to me this is often the first response in religious persons when they hear and realize their faith attacked by truth.

Acts 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
___________

Thanks for not only sharing, but also explaining to us how you went about it so that we may be built up with knowledge and encouraged to do the same. God Bless your perseverance Rob.
_____________

you planted seeds now God will water! God bless you for your love and boldness for them. He only asks us to be obedient, his job to save.
_____________

Way to go Rob. You planted mega seeds that God can use to bring these young missionaries to the true Jesus of the Bible.

I remember some christians that testified to me. They planted seeds in my heart that have blossomed to a great love of the true Jesus of the Bible. Thank you Rob
___________

[In regard to our presentation at the Bridge Church:] I enjoyed it very much! I love the knowledge you have!
